New movies on DVD, Blu-ray, pay-per-view and in theaters
O.K., so you’ve got this great high definition TV, and there are literally thousands of movies out there to choose from.
Every Friday, I post a quick list of the films that will be coming out on DVD, Blu-ray and pay-per-view on the next Tuesday, and on the Tuesday after that, along the theatrical releases for the next week. In effect, the home entertainment information is repeated for those who want to get a jump on things.

The Assassin (not rated) Historical fantasy – Cannes Film Festival winner is a lovingly photographed, slowly paced martial arts epic about a young woman (Qi Shu) trained as a fighter and ordered to kill her husband-to-be.
Goosebumps (PG) Horror/comedy – Young Dylan Minnette falls for next-door neighbor Odeya Rush, the daughter of famed horror writer R.L. Stine (Jack Black) whose stories start coming to life. Yikes!
In theaters January 29
Fifty Shades of Black (R) Comedy – Marlon Wayans aims his latest parody at Fifty Shades of Grey.
The Finest Hours (PG-13) Action suspense – Fact-based story of the 1952 rescue of the crew of an oil tanker that broke in half off the New England coast during a nor’easter. With Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Eric Bana.
Jane Got a Gun (R) Western – Natalie Portman straps on a six-shooter and goes after the bad guys who shot her husband. With Joel Edgerton and Ewan McGregor.
Kung Fu Panda 3 (PG) Animation – All of the familiar voices (Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman) are back for more comic martial arts.
On DVD and pay-per-view February 2
Bridge of Spies (PG-13) Historical drama – Tom Hanks stars as the lawyer who arranged the swap of a Soviet spy (Mark Rylance) for Francis Gary Powers. Directed by Stephen Spielberg. One of last year’s best. Nominated for Best Picture, Screenplay and Supporting Actor.
The Last Witch Hunter (PG-13) Action Fantasy – Vin Diesel is the titular guy who has survived for centuries thwarting supernatural enemies all the while.
