New movies on DVD, Blu-ray, pay-per-view and in theaters
O.K., so you’ve got this great high definition TV, and there are literally thousands of movies out there to choose from.
Every Friday, I post a quick list of the films that will be coming out on DVD, Blu-ray and pay-per-view on the next Tuesday, and on the Tuesday after that, along the theatrical releases for the next week. In effect, the home entertainment information is repeated for those who want to get a jump on things.
On DVD and pay-per-view May 20
The Last Stand (R) Action – Small town sheriff Arnold Schwarzenegger deals with an escaped drug kingpin. With Johnny Knoxville and Forest Whitaker. (Box office disappointment)
Parker (R) Action – Jason Statham is Donald Westlake’s tough professional thief. He plans a heist in Palm Beach with Jennifer Lopez. Directed by Taylor Hackford. (Another box office disappointment)
Side Effects (R) Suspense – Psychiatrist Jude Law prescribes an experimental anxiety drug to Rooney Mara. Complications ensue. With Catherine Zeta-Jones and Channing Tatum. Directed by Steven Soderbergh.
New on Blu-ray
Medium Cool (R, 1969) Drama – Haskell Wexler’s famous semi-documentary experimental work takes place before and during the riots of the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. With Robert Forster.
In theaters May 24
Epic (PG) Animation – A teenage girl is transported to a magical forest where she takes part in the battle of good vs. evil. With the voices of Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell and Beyonce.
Fast & Furious 6 (PG-13) Action – Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, and Vin Diesel are back with lots of hot girls and automotive CGI effects.
The Hangover III (R) Comedy – Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha and Ken Jeong are back in Vegas to wrap things up.
New on Blu-ray May 2
Airheads (PG-13, 1994) Comedy – Frustrated rockers Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi and Adam Sandler are forced to take over a radio station.
Rolling Thunder (R, 1977) Action – Vietman veterans William Devane and Tommy Lee Jones go up against a Texas gang.
The Star Chamber (R, 1983) Drama – Judge Michael Douglas deals with a secret group of influential men who dispense their own justice.
